In recent years Microanalytics, in
collaboration with university researchers, has been actively applying
its unique AromaTrax® technology to the improvement of understanding of
downwind farm odor impact. These efforts, partially funded by USDA under
the SBIR program, have involved concerted efforts with researchers from
Iowa State, Texas A&M and West Texas A&M Universities. To date, farming
operations of particular focus have been high density swine and cattle
operations although the same approach is applicable to poultry,
municipal and other types of odor emission sources. Emissions from the
high density CAFOs (Confined Animal Feeding Operations) has grown to be
a hot button issue in many parts of the US and abroad due to their ever
increasing size, capacity and corresponding density of odorous waste
output.
